Motorists can expect delays on Interstate 80 beginning tonight.

Both eastbound and westbound lanes will have 15-minute traffic stoppages at Mosier Road for utility-line work. These stops will occur every half-hour between 9 p.m. and midnight.

Veterans’ ceremony

NEW CASTLE, PA.

State Rep. Chris Sainato of New Castle, D-9th, and American Legion Post 343 will host a ceremony honoring Vietnam War veterans in the 9th Legislative District at 6 p.m. Friday at the post home, 134 Jefferson St. The district includes Lawrence and Beaver counties.

Sainato said each veteran will be presented with a citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in recognition of his or her service and sacrifice in that war, which began for the U.S. in the 1960s when the first combat troops were deployed and ended in 1975 with the fall of Saigon in South Vietnam.

Cleanup canceled

YOUNGSTOWN

Lien Forward Ohio Regional Council of Governments has canceled a litter cleanup scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Saturday on U.S. Route 422 between the city line and Worthington Street. A rescheduled late-June cleanup of the roadside and adjacent Brier Hill neighborhood made the July event unnecessary.

The next litter cleanup of Route 422, the ramps of the 711 Connector and the Brier Hill neighborhood organized by Lien Forward Ohio will be at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 18. Volunteers will meet in the parking lot of Antioch Baptist Church, 110 Funston St.

Man faces charges

PITTSBURGH

A 27-year-old Sharon, Pa., resident is facing five to 40 years in federal prison and a fine of as much as $2 million after he pleaded guilty to a federal drug offense.

Dexter McKelvin possessed with intent to distribute 5 grams or more of crack cocaine June 30, 2009, assistant U.S. Atty. Barbara K. Swartz said this week. There are 28 grams to the ounce. Senior U.S. District Judge Alan N. Bloch ordered McKelvin detained without bond pending his 11:30 a.m. Nov. 18 sentencing. The case was investigated by Sharon police and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Police found a stainless-steel crack-cocaine pipe in a vehicle driven by Travis Cross, 26, of the 1500 block of Difford Drive, Niles, after a traffic stop for a shattered windshield about 2 p.m. Monday on state Route 193. Cross was found to have limited driving privileges, to and from work, and was not doing either when stopped. He was charged with possession of drugs, unsafe vehicle and no driver’s license. He will appear Tuesday in Girard Municipal Court.
