The Weathersfield Board of Education approved a new three-year contract with the district’s 28 nonteaching employees Wednesday.

The pact includes wage increases of 2 percent in the first year, 1.75 percent in the second year and a wage reopener in the third year.

The contract for the Ohio Association of Public School Employees Local No. 722 will run from July 1, 2010, to June 30, 2013.

The percentage increases are the same as teachers received in a new contract approved last month, which also includes a wage re-opener in the third year.

New hourly rates for employees will vary by position. Examples are: Bus drivers, step 1, in 2010, $18.63 an hour, to $19 an hour in 2011 and $19.34 an hour in 2012; bus mechanic, step 1, $16.62 in 2010 to $16.95 in 2011 and $17.25 in 2012; cafeteria workers, step 1, $13.83 in 2010, $14.11 in 2011 and $14.36 in 2012; custodians, step 1 (daytime), $16.62 in 2010; $16.95 in 2011 and $17.25 in 2012; secretaries, step 1, $14.49 in 2010, $15.60 in 2011 and $15.87 in 2012.

Treasurer Laurena Rouan told the board the district ended fiscal year 2010 in “a little better” financial shape than was expected last fall, when projections were that the district’s expenses would be $600,000 over revenues. The year ended with expenditures $274,000 over revenues and a balance of $1.6 million, Rouan said, thanks to the administration’s cost cuts.
