Captain Fantastic gives Covelli a boost
The Covelli Centre made a $65,959 operating surplus between April and June — the largest amount the Youngstown-owned facility has ever made during that time-frame in its five-plus-year history.
Center officials had estimated it would lose $18,811 in the second quarter of the year, but that was before they booked Elton John for a sold-out May 1 concert.
The operating surplus can be largely attributed to the John concert, three Walking With Dinosaur shows, and a reduction in salaries and utility fees designed to keep down expenses, said Eric Ryan, the center’s executive director.
