National Guard starts new facilities at Camp Ravenna

NEWTON FALLS

The Ohio National Guard will conduct an official groundbreaking ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Monday for a new barracks facility and utilities upgrade project at the Camp Ravenna Joint Military Training Center located at 1438 State Route 534 SW.

The new 7,940 square feet two-story barracks facility will accommodate 116 beds and includes laundry facilities and a supply room along with Internet connectivity. The project is scheduled for completion on March 1, 2011, at an estimated cost of about $2 million.

The event will also acknowledge efforts by U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th, in securing funding for several other projects including two recently completed facilities – a separate $1.8 million, 7,289 square feet barracks building completed in January 2010 and a $1.5 million 44,000 square feet engineer schoolhouse renovation completed in December 2009.
