A pair of local standouts will attend Mount Union and compete in athletics for the Purple Raiders.

Clayton Hull (Western Reserve) will play football.

Hull, a 6-foot-1, 188-pound wide receiver, was a four-year letterwinner, an All-Ohio and an all-conference selection for coach Andrew Hake at Western Reserve.

Mount Union went 14-1 last season, won its 18th consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference championship and advanced to the Stagg Bowl for the fifth year in a row. Mount Union has won a record 10 NCAA Division III national championships and coach Larry Kehres begins his 25th season with a 289-22-3 record.

The Purple Raiders open the 2010 season Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. at Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Hull plans to study information technology and is the son of Tim and Sue Hull of Salem.

Former United High basketball standout Zack Taylor will also attend Mount Union.

Taylor, a 6-1 guard, was a three-year letterwinner, an all-conference and all-county selection for coach Mike Ward at United.

Mount Union went 11-14 last season and finished tied for fifth in the OAC which was the team’s highest finish in the conference since the 2003-04 season.

The Purple Raiders are coached by Lee Hood who is entering his 19th season.

Taylor plans to study sport business and is the son of Paul and Doreen Taylor of Lisbon.
