Cleveland Clinic says it fixed patient-consent issues

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Clinic says it has corrected a problem with patient consent records following a government inspection.

Inspectors found that some patients were going into surgery without signed consent forms in their files. The forms show that medical procedures have been explained to patients.

The research hospital says the violations have been fixed. Under new rules, no patient can go into the operating room without a properly signed consent form.

Clinic chief quality officer Dr. Michael Henderson says the hospital takes the violations seriously and the moves taken to fix them have improved performance.
