POLAND HIGH School Hall of Fame inductees


Joe Raysor (1931)

Raysor set the school track records in both the 100 and 220. He was also the Mahoning County Champion in both events and went on to place third in state competition in the 100 and fourth in the 220.

David Finney (1969)

He played football, basketball and track. He was a All-Tri-County selection in football as a junior and senior, and scored 13 touchdowns as a senior. In basketball, Finney was a member of the 1969 Tri-County championship team. In track, he excelled in the pole vault and as a sprinter where he was selected as the MVP of the Struthers Relays and the Tri-County Championship. He won the 100 and 200 at these events, was third in the long jump and set the record in the pole vault.

Reid Lamport

He has been the Bulldogs’ varsity softball coach for the 21 years and led the team to two state championship games. Lamport’s teams have won 18 league titles. Prior to taking over the softball program in 1989, Lamport was head football coach for seven years, guiding the Bulldogs to their first wins over Struthers in 1987 and Warren JFK in 1993. Lamport has been recognized by the Ohio High School Athletic Association as a member of the Hall of Fame.

Becky Rudzik (1989)

She excelled in track and cross country, earning four varsity letters and conference honors all four years. She also was a four-time state qualifier for the 800 and the mile. Rudzik went on to compete at Youngstown State Uniersity in cross country as well as indoor and outdoor track where she was the Penguins’ top female runner for four years. She holds the YSU record for the 800 and 3000, and was the top female runner at The Notre Dame Invitational.

Maggie Slosser (2000)

One of the most dominant female athletes in the area, Slosser is Poland’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder. She helped lead the Bulldogs to three consecutive Metro Athletic Conference titles and two trips to the state semifinals. She was a four-year letter winner and garnered All–MAC honors three years. In 1999, Slosser was named All-Northeast Ohio and All-Ohio. In track, Slosser was First-Team All-MAC and broke the school record in the high jump. Although plagued by injuries, she averaged almost eight points and six rebounds per game for Clemson.

Ben Bair (2000)

A three-year starter at quarterback, Bair smashed all of Poland’s passing records while leading the Bulldogs to a 15-0 record and their first state championship in 1999. An All-MAC selection in 1998 and an All-MAC and All-Ohio selection in 1999, Bair holds the single-season records for yards (2,345) and touchdown passes (22). His career marks include pass attempts (492), yards (4,661) and touchdown passes season (38). Bair played one season at Youngstown State.

Andrew Colella (2000)

He was a three-year starter in football and captain of the 1999 state champion team. Anchoring Poland’s secondary as a senior, Colella was First-team All-MAC and First-team All NEO. He also competed in track where he was a two-year letter winner and a member of the state champion 4x100 relay team and the 4x200 relay team that broke the school record. Colella is one of three in school history to be a member of two different state championship teams. He played football at Mercyhurst College.

Peter Modelski (2000)

A three-year starter in football at wide receiver, Modelski was a key member of the 1999 state champion football team. He led the Bulldogs in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns. He was All-MAC and All-NEO in football in 1999. In track, Modelski was an All-Ohio performer lettering three years. He anchored the state champion 4x100 relay team and the record setting 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams. Modelski holds school records in the 100 and 200. He also is one of three athletes to have participated on two state champion teams in the same school year. Modelski played football at Fordham where he was a three-year starter.
