AKRON

An infant who was brain dead after suffering from shaken-baby syndrome died after an Ohio judge’s ruling that her mother could remove her from life support.

Akron Children’s Hospital confirmed that 9-month-old Jada Ruiz-Jones died Friday, after Summit County Probate Judge Bill Spicer granted 19-year-old Deja Ruiz’s request to remove her infant daughter from life support. Ruiz’s attorney did not return a phone message left Saturday.

The baby’s father, 17-year-old John Jones, is charged with causing the injuries and had tried to keep the child on life support. His lawyer, Pamela Hawkins, declined to comment Saturday.
