The Mahoning County One-Stop will host a recruiting event for Humility of Mary Health Partners on Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the One-Stop offices, 141 Boardman-Canfield Road. Local residents interested in employment as certified state-tested nursing assistants or home-health-care associates are encouraged to attend.

Various full- and part-time shifts are available at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Humility House and The Assumption Village. Attendees should bring a r sum and be prepared to complete an application. No appointments are necessary.

Seminar for owners

The office of U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown will host a free seminar for small-business owners at Youngstown State University’s Kilcawley Center on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The workshop will discuss opportunities for small businesses, including those related to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, new health-care reform legislation and U.S. Small Business Administration loan programs. The seminar will also provide information about the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment, or HIRE Act, which was enacted in March and offers two new tax benefits to employers who hire previously unemployed workers.

Picking up donations

The Fish Samaritan House offers free pick-ups from most locations in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties. The organization, which provides support services in need of emergency food, clothing and household items, will pick up donations for free on weekdays. Free Saturday pick-ups can be arranged. Donations will be sold in the Fish Samaritan House thrift store, 17 Kenmore Ave.

New art space at cafe

The Lemon Grove Caf , 122 W. Federal Plaza, has opened a new art space that will display rotating exhibitions. The first show, titled “Rust _ Rococo,” features the work of local artists Justin Reese, Salem Reese, Aimee Kirby, Don Attenberger, Steve Poullas, Leslie Cusano and Jimmy Hagan.

Akron Children’s Hospital will offer inpatient asthma services with the acquisition of the Allergy & Asthma Center of Northeast Ohio. The center’s three allergy and immunology specialists — Rajeev Kishore, Ravi Karnani and Nancy Wasserbauer Kingston — will treat children with food, drug and seasonal allergies, asthma, atopic dermatitis, immunodeficiency and skin diseases. The hospital’s division of Allergy and Immunology and the Robert T. Stone, M.D., Respiratory Center will collaborate with the new Allergy and Asthma Center on best practices in outpatient asthma care.
