YSU-Penn State tickets to be sold August 9

Youngstown State students can purchase YSU at Penn State football tickets Aug. 9.

YSU students with a valid ID will be allowed to purchase one ticket each for the Sept. 4 game against the Nittany Lions. Each ticket is $72, which includes a processing fee. For details, call 330-941-1978.

High school soccer officials classes set

The Ohio High School Athletic Association has soccer officiating classes available. The 25-hour course is conducted by the Mahoning Valley Soccer Officials Association at the end of July and first week in August at the Niles Wellness Center.

YMCA offers instructor training

The D.D. & Velma Davis Family YMCA is offering lifeguard training and swim lesson instructor training for teens and adults.

Participants can register for these programs in person at the Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road in Boardman, or online at www.youngstownymca.org. For information, contact Chris Hughes at 330-480-5655.

The life guard training classes will meet July 19-30 Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $200. This class will cover first aid, CPR and oxygen training.

Participants must be at least 16 and pass a swim test that includes swimming continuously for 500 yards, treading water for two minutes without using hands and retrieving an object from a depth of 10 feet. YMCA swim lesson instructor training runs July 26-28 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cost for this course is $175 for those who register by July 19 and $200 for those registering after.

Participants must be at least 16 and able to swim 100 yards continuously, tread water for three minutes and have current certifications in CPR for the professional rescuer, oxygen administration and first aid or be enrolled in such classes in July. All successful participants are eligible for an interview for YMCA employment opportunities in the fall.

All boys in grades nine through 12 who want to try out for the Austintown Fitch golf team should contact Coach Santor at 330-793-6760 to sign up. They will have to turn in their physical exam card and emergency medical authorization forms prior to try-out. Mandatory try out dates are Aug. 2, 4, and 6 at Deer Creek Golf Course and Aug. 5 at Mill Creek Park Par 3. The try-outs begin at 8:30 a.m. each day. Participants are required to attend all four try-outs.
