Canfield swimmer sets new pool record

Garret Trebilcock beat his old record in the 15-18 boys fly with a time of 26.82 during the Canfield Swim Club’s 293-198 defeat of the Boardman swim team July 7.

Triple first-place winners for the team were Marissa Landers, Cullen Brady, Maggie Beistel, Matthew Bogen, Sarah Heaven, Daniel Bogen, Emily King, Gavin Trebilcock and Garrett Trebilcock.

Dylan Seybert to national soccer camp

Dylan Seybert, of Canfield High School, was selected to compete in the Concave Sports National Soccer Combine.

The event took place Friday and today at the Diamond Sports Complex in Canton.

The event consists of combine drills, structured practices and exhibition matches.

Standohar wins pair of golf tournaments

Evan Standohar shot a 76 to win the 14-15 division of the Diamond Back golf tournament.

Standohar also shot a 78 to win a tournament at Stambaugh.

High school soccer officials classes set

The Ohio High School Athletic Association has soccer officiating classes available.

The 25-hour course is conducted by the Mahoning Valley Soccer Officials Association at the end of July and first week in August at the Niles Wellness Center.

The Youngstown State Athletic Department has group football tickets available.

Tickets are various prices depending on the size of the group.

YMCA offers lifeguard, swim instructor training

The D.D. & Velma Davis Family YMCA is offering lifeguard training and swim lesson instructor training for teens and adults.

The life guard training classes will meet July 19-30 Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $200.

This class will cover first aid, CPR and oxygen training.

Participants must be at least 16 and pass a swim test that includes swimming continuously for 500 yards, treading water for two minutes without using hands and retrieving an object from a depth of 10 feet.

YMCA swim lesson instructor training runs July 26-28 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Cost for this course is $175 for those who register by July 19 and $200 for those registering after.

Participants must be at least 16 and able to swim 100 yards continuously, tread water for three minutes and have current certifications in CPR for the professional rescuer, oxygen administration and first aid or be enrolled in such classes in July.

All successful participants are eligible for an interview for YMCA employment opportunities in the fall.

YSU-Penn State tickets to be sold August 9

Youngstown State students can purchase YSU at Penn State football tickets Aug. 9.

YSU students with a valid ID will be allowed to purchase one ticket each for the Sept. 4 game against the Nittany Lions.
