Mooney speech team earns national honors

Cardinal Mooney High School was singled out for special recognition at the 2010 National Forensic League National Tournament.

Mooney was recognized with the School of Excellence Award in Speech in front of a packed house during the national awards assembly June 18 in Kansas City, Mo.

The School of Excellence Award in Speech recognizes a minimum of 50 rounds of competition completed by the entire team. Cardinal Mooney was one of only 11 schools in the country to receive such an award and was the second year in a row the team has been honored as a School of Excellence.

Mooney students placing at the national competition included Poland’s Patrick Hobby and Carly Carano, seventh place in Duo Interpretation; and Austintown’s Lauren Tonti, 12th in International Extemporaneous. Michael Rotar of Boardman was a quarterfinalist in United States Extemporaneous and placed 18th.
