Magic retain J.J. Redick with offer

Associated Press

ORLANDO, Fla.

Orlando Magic general manager Otis Smith said Friday that the team will retain J.J. Redick. The Magic matched a $19 million, three-year offer sheet that the Chicago Bulls made for Redick.

Because Redick was a restricted free agent, the Magic had seven days to decide to match the contract. They took all seven to make the move that nearly doubles Redick’s salary from last season.

The former Duke standout was the 11th overall pick in the 2006 draft.

BREWER HEADED TO CHICAGO

Chicago

The agent for Ronnie Brewer confirmed Friday the guard has agreed to a three-year contract with the Chicago Bulls.

The deal reunites Brewer with former Utah teammates Carlos Boozer and Kyle Korver, who became Bulls earlier this month.

Brewer finished last season with Memphis after being dealt from Utah at the trade deadline in February. He played in only five games with the Grizzlies because of a strained hamstring.

Milicic, Wolves agree to deal

MINNEAPOLIS

The Minnesota Timberwolves made Darko Milicic feel wanted for the first time in his disappointing career. Their faith and a four-year contract were enough to persuade Milicic to keep playing in the NBA instead of returning to his native Serbia.

Milicic met the Minnesota media Friday at the team’s practice facility, his first appearance since re-signing with the Timberwolves for roughly $16 million.

Dampier Favors bobcats

Charlotte

Erick Dampier says Charlotte will get the “first opportunity” to re-sign him if the Bobcats waive the veteran center to clear salary cap space.

Dampier indicated he hopes his situation is resolved soon and squashed speculation he might return to Dallas.

The 34-year-old big man has been one of the biggest chips available in the offseason because he’s in the last year of his deal and his $13 million salary next season isn’t guaranteed.

Celtics, Robinson reach Deal

BOSTON

A Boston Celtics official says the team has reached an agreement in principle with guard Nate Robinson on a new contract.

The Boston Herald reported that Robinson will get $4 million a year for two seasons.
