Cyclones sweep last-place M.V.

Kevin Rucker went 2-for-3 and drove in the Scrappers’ lone run in a 2-1 loss to the Brooklyn Cyclones in a New York-Penn League game Friday.
Andrew Kinney doubled and Chase Burnette singled and scored for Mahoning Valley (11-17), which lost all three games on the short road trip and is tied with Auburn for last place in the Pinckney Division.
The Scrappers return to Eastwood Field tonight for a three-game homestand against Williamsport.
Mahoning Valley batted just 1 for 12 with runners in scoring position and stranded seven runners.
Mike Rayl (0-3) started and gave up both runs over five innings, surrendering five hits with three strikeouts and no walks.
Kyle Smith pitched two scoreless innings of relief, striking out three and walking two.
James Ehlert pitched a scoreless eighth, pitching around a hit and two walks. He struck out one.
Luis Nieves hit a two-run homer in the third inning to lead Brooklyn (18-10), which leads the McNamara Division by two games over last year’s NYPL champions, Staten Island.
Angel Cuan (3-0) pitched 62/3 innings, giving a run on eight hits with six strikeouts for Brooklyn. Three Cyclone relievers combined for 22/3 innings of hitless relief.
