U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th, announced Friday that appropriations subcommittee bills contain almost $7.7 million in funding for local projects in 2011.

More than $3.5 million of the money would directly benefit the 17th District. But the bill must still pass the full House Appropriations Committee, the House and Senate, and be signed by the president.

“Securing $1.3 million for the Eastern Gateway Community College will make great strides toward creating a presence for the college in downtown Warren – tying it nicely to the new Tech Belt Energy Innovation Center and the city’s escalating economic revitalization,” Ryan said.

The money would also be used to expand services to an additional 100 economically disadvantaged high school students at the Youngstown Early College that will enable them to get a high school diploma as well as an associate’s degree.
