Worker shocked
YOUNGSTOWN
Police said an Ohio Department of Transportation worker driving a tractor got an electrical shock and a cut on his cheek when a car forced him to swerve along the Mahoning Avenue entrance ramp to Interstate 680.
The worker, Richard Sause, 52, of DeSoto Avenue, Youngstown, told police he was driving up the ramp when a car suddenly entered behind him, forcing him to swerve to avoid being hit. His tractor, equipped with a mower deck, struck a utility pole, causing live electric lines to fall on the tractor roof, giving him an electric shock, he told police. The car kept going.
Police said Sause was trapped on the tractor until an Ohio Edison crew could reach the scene and cut power to the lines. He was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Canned food drive
NORTH LIMA
Beaver Township Park Board, in collaboration with the South Range Council of Community Churches, will conduct a canned food drive from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at three locations in the township: Woodworth Park, the township administration office and the township nature reserve. The food will be used to help the needy in the community, explained Scott Conway, township park administrator. “Donations seem to drop off in the summer, and this is a way of letting people know there is a need, and this is a way they can help,” he said. “It’s a community-wide effort to serve the community.”
A similar drive was conducted last summer. For more information about the drive or other park activities, contact the park board at 330-549-9552.
