An Aravesta Avenue man was in the Mahoning County jail accused of assaulting a township police officer.

David D. Bell, 31, was charged with assault on a

police officer, a felony, and two misdemeanor counts of

obstructing official business and resisting arrest.

Police were called about 6:15 p.m. Thursday on a report

of a man, later identified as Bell, breaking a window at Ohio Carpet, Market Street.

A police officer saw a man matching Bell’s description knock on a door on Aravesta and yelled for him to stop, but Bell ran into the house.

Police surrounded the house, and Bell exited the house in a “threatening manner,” the report said. Two police officers blocked him when he ignored commands to stop. When the officers tried to restrain him, Bell pushed and then punched one of them in the mouth, police said.
