Flower show features Japanese designs
YOUNGSTOWN
Members of Ikebana Youngstown exhibited Japanese flower designs at their annual flower show on June 5 and 6 at the D.D. Davis Center in Fellows Riverside Gardens at Mill Creek Park. Following set-up for the show there was a formal tea for members.
Featured at the show were designs from four schools: Chiko, Ohara, Sogetsu and Ichiyo. Shoiji screens provided the background for the 35 exhibits, which were not judged but displayed for their beauty and for viewing by the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 5 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 6.
Creating the designs were Esther Bertch, Sheila Bowman, Kaaren Cabraja, Susie Cochran, Elsie DeHoff, Patricia Gojdics, Dorothy Haddox, Ann Hanka, Dianna Mullins, Pearl Marlos, Beverly Patrick, Colleen Smith, Eleanor Steffens and Linda Vuletich.
Ikebana Youngstown was founded in 1963 and is a member of the Garden Forum of Greater Youngstown Area Inc. Shirley Winkler of Saxonburg, Pa., a master Japanese instructor of the Ichiyo School, is the instructor for the group, which meets the second Tuesday of most months.
