Sandoval leads Brooklyn past MV

BROOKLYN, N.Y.
Rylan Sandoval hit a home run and double, driving in three runs, and Cory Vaughn added a solo shot, leading the Brooklyn Cyclones over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, 7-4, in a New York-Penn League baseball game at MCU Park on Wednesday night.
The Cyclones (16-10) broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning, scoring an unearned run when reliever Moises Montero’s pickoff attempt sailed wide of third base, allowing Joe Bonfe to trot home with the tie-breaking run.
Later in the inning, Sandoval hit a two-run double to give Brooklyn a 6-3 lead.
Mahoning Valley (11-15) was held to six hits, all singles, by four Cyclines pitchers. Dan DeGeorge had two hits.
The Scrappers trailed 3-0, but rallied to tie the score in the top of the fourth.
Brian Heere and Aaron Fields led off with walks, then Tyler Cannon loaded the bases with a bunt single.
A throwing error by Brooklyn pitcher Yohan Almonte allowed Heere and Fields to score. Cannon then scored on a sacrifice fly by Giovanny Urshela.
Mahoning Valley scored its final run in the seventh inning. Andrew Kinney led off by reaching on an error, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Cannon.
