POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

July 8

Arrest: Police picked up Sara L. Dutting at her residence, 124 Mackey St., Hubbard, on felony warrants from Ashland County, Ohio.

Theft: A worker for Dollar General, 886 W. Liberty St., reported a female shoplifter left in a silver Dodge vehicle.

Assault: A West Middlesex, Pa., man reported having been assaulted in the 100 block of Clingan Avenue.

July 9

Theft: A woman reported the theft of jewelry from her home in the 300 block of Jacobs Road.

July 10

Attempted burglary: Someone tried to break into a residence in the 700 block of Elmwood Drive.

Recovered property: Someone found and turned over to police baseball equipment that had been left at Harding Park off state Route 616.

July 11

Theft: A woman reported property stolen from her residence in the 300 block of Scott Street.

Theft: A 10-foot ladder was taken from a home in the 300 block of Myron Street.

Assault: A Christian Avenue man alleged his girlfriend had struck him in the face.

LIBERTY

July 8

Menacing: The manager of a Holly Drive apartment complex told police a man threatened to beat him up regarding rules pertaining to the use of the swimming pool.

Menacing: A Shannon Road woman reported her former boyfriend pounded on her door and deliberately spilled a liquid in her vehicle as part of a monthlong pattern of harassment.

Recovered property: A 20-inch boys bicycle was found in the 900 block of Royal Arms Drive.

Theft/damage: Someone forcibly removed and stole a $75 plastic mailbox in the 1100 block of Logan Woods Drive.

Arrest: Aaron L. Jones, 40, of 552 Bennington Ave., Youngstown, was taken into custody while riding a bicycle in the 2100 block of Belmont Avenue when police learned he was wanted on two counts of larceny.

Arrest: Authorities responded to an unwanted person at a Logan Way business, where they cited 52-year-old Jerry Kahn, 150 E. Market St., Warren, on a criminal-trespassing count. He also was charged with having an open container of liquor.

Breaking and entering: A worker arrived at a business in the 2900 block of Belmont Avenue and noticed holes had been cut through garage doors. Tool cases, gauges and other items were missing.

July 9

Arrest: A traffic stop on Belmont Avenue led to the arrest of 50-year-old Chester A. Perry, 2115 Elm St., Youngstown. Perry was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

July 10

Arrest: Officers answered a report of someone spray-painting a vehicle in the 1300 block of West Montrose Avenue, then charged Kathryn F. Ratliff, 1329 West Montrose, with criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct. Ratliff was intoxicated and initially refused to cooperate with police, they said.

Theft: Two $125 mountain bikes were removed from a yard in the 1500 block of West Montrose Avenue.

Theft: A man, 24, and a 27-year-old woman, both of Youngstown, were accused in, but not charged with, the theft of food and vodka from Walmart in the Liberty Plaza.

Theft: Fifty-one pills were taken from a car in the 2900 block of Oakland Drive.

Arrest: Authorities got a report that someone had driven a car through a yard on Ohio Trail, then charged 57-year-old Carol J. Jefferson, 3119 McGuffey Road, Youngstown, with criminal damaging and criminal trespassing. Jefferson also faced two drug-related charges when, police said, two suspected marijuana pipes and a bag of suspected marijuana were found.

July 11

Burglary: Took place in the 400 block of Yvonne Drive via the front door. Stolen were several bottles of prescription medications.

Breaking and entering: A flat-screen TV, an Xbox console and a Nintendo system were stolen from a Louise Lane residence someone had entered by forcing open a side door.

Burglary: Michael P. Diamantes, 47, of 14 Tuttle Lane, Liberty, faced a felony count of receiving stolen property after officers responded to a burglary in the 10 block. Diamantes was in possession of a stolen TV, a report said.

Arrest: Authorities took custody of 36-year-old Teresa Whitehead, 444 Catalina Ave., Youngstown, who was wanted on a warrant from the township. She also was wanted by Mercer County, Pa., police on a probation-violation count.

Theft: Melissa A. Deutsch, 33, of 13 Amhurst Ave., Girard, was given a summons after having been accused of stealing two bags of clothing from Goodwill Industries Inc., 2747 Belmont Ave.

Assault: A woman at a North Gate Road residence reported having been struck in the head and upper body during an argument. She suffered a bloody nose, a swollen forehead and a red mark to her chest.

Theft: A 44-year-old man, no information provided, was detained and released after three extension cords and a cable-lock device were stolen from Walmart.

Drug paraphernalia: Jamari Sharpe, 21, of 3013 North Gate Road, Liberty, was pulled over on Belmont Avenue and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and having an open container of liquor.

July 12

Animals: Police issued a summons to 35-year-old Candida M. Crockett, 1141 Overbrooke Drive, Liberty, charging her with failure to restrain or control animals after having received a complaint that her dogs were roaming the neighborhood.

Theft: A Youngstown man who stayed at Quality Inn & Suites, 4055 Belmont Ave., left without paying for five nights of lodging.

Theft: A charge was pending against a city woman, 20, after three pillows, a comforter and a bedspread were missing from a room at a Belmont Avenue motel.

Arrest: John E. Hopkins, 46, of 1600 Motor Inn Drive, Liberty, was taken into custody during a traffic stop when officers learned he was wanted on a warrant from Mahoning County.

Arrest: Karl H. McCullough Jr., 48, of 3019 North Gate Road, Liberty, was arrested on three warrants from Warren.

Theft: A $75 insurance check was taken from a vehicle in the 4100 block of Logan Gate Road.

Breaking and entering: Occurred in the 3600 block of Logan Way via a side door. Stolen was 500 feet of copper tubing estimated at $2,000.

Theft: Charges of theft and criminal trespassing were pending against a Youngstown man, 51, who reportedly tried to fraudulently exchange two vacuum cleaners at Walmart.

GIRARD

July 10

Burglary: To an apartment in the 10 block of Shelby Avenue, from which a $500 laptop computer was stolen.

Theft: A male left Great Cuts USA, 820 N. State St., and failed to pay for a $13 haircut.

Theft: Medication was removed from a car in the 100 block of Belgrade Avenue.

Criminal mischief: A racial epithet was spray-painted on a satellite dish in the 100 block of Crumlin Avenue.

Breaking and entering: A $200 stove, copper pipes and wiring were stolen from a vacant Girard residence someone had entered.

Criminal mischief: Someone painted a derogatory comment on a fence in the 200 block of East Liberty Street.

Criminal mischief: An air rifle was fired at a home in the 10 block of Cheyenne Drive.

July 11

Criminal damaging: A vehicle struck and damaged a fire hydrant near Patricia Drive before the driver fled.

Possible assault: Officers received a report that a boy had been injured in a fight in the 100 block of East Kline Street and was bleeding, though the boy’s account was not in the report.

Arrest: James Hutchison, no information given, was issued a summons on a disorderly-conduct charge in the 30 block of North State Street.

Aggravated menacing: Daniel F. Wilson of East Main Street was charged with the crime after a few neighbors alleged he had threatened them with a gun. A search of Wilson’s residence, however, turned up no firearm, police said.

July 12

Criminal mischief: Someone smeared a gel on a bedroom window to a home in the 40 block of East Howard Street.

Criminal mischief: A vehicle in the 300 block of South Market Street sustained $100 of damage to its gas cap.

Theft: A Girard boy was charged with theft of a motor vehicle after police said he admitted having taken a motorcycle from a Prospect Street residence.

Arrest: Sean J. Tascione, 20, of 1125 N. Ward Ave., Girard, faced a criminal-trespassing charge after a North Ward Avenue woman identified Tascione as one of three people who had entered her van.

Theft: A global-positioning system unit and an MP3 player were two of 10 items stolen from a car in the 400 block of Joan Avenue, for an estimated loss of $2,360.
