McDONALD

The state auditor’s office has released three separate audits of the McDonald school district for 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09.

There were no findings for recovery in any of the audits.

Separate audits also were done by an independent accountant hired by the board of education.

The independent accountant’s report was given to the board May 21, according to the state auditor’s office.

Aside from documenting the district’s $2.01 million debt, which has put it in state fiscal emergency, one legal action resulted from the audit.

The auditor’s office has referred to the Trumbull County Prosecutor the failure of the board to “ensure proper certification” was attached to a new contract with teachers for the period beginning Sept. 1, 2007.

This certification of available revenues to meet the obligations of wages is required by the auditor.

Deficits, caused by decreasing income each year, were reported in all three audits.

Other reporting methods of the former treasurer were criticized by the state auditor, which placed responsibility for obtaining correct reports and following correct procedures on the board of education.
