Eye Care Associates, 1075 W. Western Reserve Road, has given $1,000 to Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley to fund therapy programs for patients with Down’s Syndrome cared for at the Mahoning Valley location.
Specialized classes
BOARDMAN
The FitNesst, a health club at 7620 Southern Blvd., is offering a specialized series of classes focused on the nutritional aspect of coping with cancer Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m.
The eight-week series is taught by The FitNesst’s Matthew Good, a registered/licensed dietitian.
The classes, open to the general public, are $10 each.

Shepherd of the Valley – Poland and Shepherd of the Valley - Niles are seeking vendors for their fall craft shows.
Funds raised support resident activities.

Free pick-up of items
YOUNGSTOWN
Fish Samaritan House, 17 Kenmore Ave., offers free pick up of donated items from most locations in Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties.
The mission of the organization is to provide support services to individuals and families who express a need for free emergency food, clothing, furniture, appliances and other household items.
The “Fish” also accepts referrals from a broad range of local community- and religious-based organizations for low- and moderate-income families.
Monday through Friday, the “Fish” will pick up donated household, business and clothing items and unsold yard- and garage-sale items; and will remove donated items from basements.
Saturday free pick-ups can be arranged.

Bike MS
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s 24th annual Bike MS: Pedal to the Point Ride 2010 is Aug. 14 and 15.
More than 2,200 riders and 500 volunteers are expected to participate in the event sponsored by Giant Eagle.
Cyclists start at Polaris Career Center in Middleburg Heights on Aug. 14. The majority of riders travel 75 miles to Sandusky and then make the return trip back to Middleburg Heights on Aug. 15.
Cyclists who ride for two days and collect a minimum of $250 in contributions by the day of the ride receive a ticket to Cedar Point or Soak City upon their arrival in Sandusky.
Participants will receive additional prizes and special achievement awards by raising additional dollars.
New riders receive free registration until Aug. 1.

Donation to food bank
YOUNGSTOWN
The Youngstown Foundation has given Second Harvest Food Bank $13,000 to help purchase a new electric tow motor for the food bank’s warehouse.
Second Harvest provides food to 153 hunger-relief organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties, including church pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, shelters for battered woman and after-school programs.
