BOARDMAN

The Stamps Quartet will perform a benefit concert Saturday at Bridge of Hope Church, 7580 Glenwood Ave., for Operation Home Front and the Joanne Bruno George Kidney Fund.

Tickets are $20 each or $35 for two concerts.

The Blackwood Brothers will perform at the church for the same causes Aug. 14.

Donations are accepted at Chase Bank for the Joanne Bruno George Kidney Fund. Joanne, of Boardman, a former employee of Mahoning County Child Support and former Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department auxiliary deputy, has been in end-stage renal failure for three years since disease destroyed both of her kidneys.

Proceeds from the fund-raisers will help with the costs of medical bills and future prescriptions associated with a kidney transplant.

The Visiting Nurse Association of Greater Youngstown, 518 E. Indianola Ave., is offering a health clinic Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon that will include general health screenings, such as weight, blood pressure, blood sugars and medication review. A Poland Fire Department firefighter will discuss home fire safety.

The American Cancer Society is offering a free educational program for cancer survivors and caregivers on Complementary Therapy at 6:30 p.m. July 27 at the Society’s Northeast Ohio Region office, 525 North Broad St. Shellie Warino, clinical coordinator of radiation therapy at Kent State University, is the featured speaker. CPR events

American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley, serving Mahoning and Trumbull Counties, is offering several “CPR Saturday” events over the summer at its two locations: 661 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren, and 8381 Market St., Adamas Plaza. The fee is $50 for the day-long class on CPR for adults, children and infants, how to rescue choking victims, rescue breathing for babies and children, and signs and symptoms of life-threatening emergencies, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Adult CPR class alone is 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and costs $35.00. Class dates are: July 31, Aug. 7 and Sept. 25 in Warren; and Aug. 14 and Sept. 11 in Boardman.

Belmont Pines Hospital, a behavioral health facility for children at 615 Churchill-Hubbard Road, is offering a free lunch program, “Things to Do to Take Better Care of YOU & Prevent Burn Out,” on Aug. 5 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Participants will receive a free lunch and earn 1.5 continuing-education units upon completion. The self-help course, open to all counselors and social workers in Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania, is presented by Belmont Pines, in conjunction with the Youngstown State University’s Department of Social Work and the National Association of Social Workers-Ohio Chapter Region IV.
