Andy Timko returns to Westminster hoops

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.

Former Youngstown State men’s basketball player Andy Timko has transferred to Westminster College, and will be a member of the 2010-11 squad.

Timko, who graduated from McDonald High, played at Westminster as a freshman during the 2007-08 season. He appeared in 26 games, starting 18, and averaged 4.3 points per game.

Timko transferred to YSU where he was redshirted in 2008-09 and played in three games last season.

Timko was a three-year letterman at McDonald and was a two-time first-team Northeast Ohio Inland District selection, a two-time first-team all-conference pick, and he received first-team nod for the all-Trumbull County team. The son of Andy and Dianne Timko, Andy plans to major in history at Westminster in the fall.

Westminster has also added four freshmen and one other transfer to the 2010-11 squad — Nate Herrmann, a guard from Seneca Valley High in Cranberry, Pa.; Kendall Hunter, a guard from McKeesport (Pa.) High; Joey Shimmel, a guard from Toronto High; Matt Shiner, a guard from Clearfield, Pa., who played at Penn State Behrend, and Anthony Thomas, a guard from Union High in New Castle, Pa.
