Sewer-line extension project to begin

Staff report

ALLIANCE

The Mahoning County Commissioners will conduct a ground-breaking ceremony at 2 p.m. Thursday at Todd and Alden avenues in Smith Township, Mahoning County, for the first of four phases of the East Alliance sanitary-sewer extension.

The $1,408,048 first phase will be completed in six months by Marucci & Gaffney Excavating Inc. of Youngstown and will serve 33 homes on Oyster Road and Alden Avenue.

The first phase is being funded by an Ohio Public Works Commission grant, federal Community Development Block Grant monies and county funds.

The county also will provide up to $54,900 to cover connection costs for 18 low- and moderate-income households.

The four phases combined will total about $5 million; and sewage from the extension will flow to the Alliance treatment plant.
