Pittsburgh agrees to settlement with protesters

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh officials have agreed to pay a $27,000 settlement to two women who claimed they were mistreated by police during an anti-war protest.

De’Anna Caliguiri claimed she was Tasered and Carole Wiedmann said she was bitten by a police dog during the 2005 protest in the city’s Oakland neighborhood. The women claimed they obeyed police officers but were mistreated anyway.

The women had filed a lawsuit against the city in federal court alleging their constitutional rights were violated.

Pittsburgh City Council approved the settlement Tuesday.
