Second Harvest gift

YOUNGSTOWN

Second Harvest Food Bank has received $12,400 from the Kennedy Family Foundation.

The money will be used to support the food bank’s BackPack Program and to distribute food to hungry individuals and families. The BackPack Program provides food to children on weekends. At Campbell Elementary School, 150 students receive a bag full of nutritious food each week.

The Kennedy Family Foundation provided $10,000 to support the BackPack Program at Campbell Elementary and $2,400 in response to a community partnership with WYSU-FM. Through this partnership, the foundation contributed $2 to Second Harvest Food Bank for every pledge made to WYSU during its spring fund drive.

The Kennedy Family Foundation is part of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.

Wildlife rabies alert

NEW CASTLE, Pa.

Officials at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services office in Harrisburg said recently that the annual wildlife rabies vaccination will be in August. In the meantime, they ask that residents notify their office about any wildlife suspected of having rabies.

To report a suspected rabid animal, call 866-487-3297 or 724-238-7320. A dead animal should be reported as quickly as possible so a screening test can be done.
