YOUNGSTOWN

Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens have chosen “Splashes of Art” as the theme for its 2010 garden party July 30 at Mill Creek Park.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. guests will have the opportunity to view the floral display beds and Lake Glacier.

This year an added attraction will be the “Art in the Gardens” outdoor display of sculptures created by 25 local artists and placed strategically throughout the gardens.

The focus of the evening will be on the Seasonal Celebration Plaza/Sommer Fountain Renovation project.

During the party the first step in a long-awaited renovation project will be taken as Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens begin the symbolic demolition of the old K. Calvin Sommer Fountain, paving the way for the construction of a new fountain, a surrounding plaza and walkways and the renovation of the shade garden.

Visitors will be able to take away a piece of history as the old concrete is broken.

A selection of tapas from Asian, Italian, Mediterranean and American cultures will be presented, and music for listening and dancing will be played by the 2nd Avenue Band.

Reservations for the “Splashes of Art” garden party are required and can be made by calling 330-740-7116.

The garden party is being sponsored by PNC Bank and underwritten by the Schwebel Family Foundation, John and Michelle Perdue-McDonald’s and Fred Martin Ford and Mercedes Benz.
