DOCTORS

Medical resident

Lisa Stempak, daughter of Mark and Rosemary Stempak and granddaughter of Andy and Betty Stempak and the late Ralph and Bertha Fabrizio, graduated June 4 from the University of Toledo College of Medicine. She will complete a medical residency in pathology at University Hospitals Case Medical Center, Cleveland.

She is a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School and John Carroll University.

DOCTORATE

Civil engineering

Christopher Wilson, son of Gary and Judy Wilson of Struthers, has received his doctorate in civil engineering from Virginia Tech University, Blacksburg, Va.

After graduating from Struthers High School in 2000, he received his bachelor’s degree in civil and environmental engineering in 2004 from Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pa. He went on to Virginia Tech and received his master’s degree in environmental engineering in the fall of 2006.

Wilson received the Michael D. LaGrega Award for Excellence in Environmental Engineering in 2004, Edna Bailey Sussman Foundation Internship in 2006 and the Virginia Water Environment Association Sonny Roden Memorial Scholarship and Charles E. Via Ph.D. Fellowship from 2006 to 2010.

He is employed by Greeley and Hansen as a process engineer/biosolids specialist. He lives in Richmond, Va., with his wife, Lauren Zuravnsky of Cranford, N.J. He previously worked for MS Consultants Inc. in Youngstown as an environmental engineering intern during the summers of 2002 to 2004.

Wilson is the grandson of Josephine Cabuno and the late Michael Cabuno and the late Jack and Ruth Wilson.

Pharmacy degree

Kevin M. Phelan of Boardman recently graduated from the Ohio State University School of Pharmacy, where he received his doctorate of pharmacy degree.

Phelan is the son of Edward Phelan and Linda Everhart of Boardman, and he is married to the former Kathleen Robinson of Columbus. He is a 2001 graduate of Boardman High School.

Phelan has accepted a position with a Walgreens Pharmacy in Columbus.

LAWYERS

Juris doctorate

Andrew John Moody of Canfield has earned his juris doctorate degree from Capital University School of Law, Columbus.

Moody, a 1999 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School, received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame. After graduation, he joined the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in Oakland, Calif. There he worked for the East Bay Conservation Corps, a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching work skills to local youths.

After an internship with then- U.S. Rep. Ted Strickland, Moody earned a master’s degree in governmental affairs from the Fels Institute at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.

He is the son of Dr. Dennis and Learose Moody and the grandson of the late Dr. and Mrs. Andrew Detesco and Mr. and Mrs. John Moody.

DePaul graduate

Megan E. McCaslin of Poland has graduated with her law degree from the DePaul University School of Law in Chicago.

McCaslin is a 2003 graduate of Poland Seminary High School and a 2007 graduate of Miami University of Ohio, where she received a bachelor’s degree in business and marketing.

She is the daughter of John and Kathy McCaslin of Poland.

STATE PATROL

Promoted to sergeant

Trooper Howard R. Craft has been promoted to the rank of sergeant. He will transfer from his current assignment at the Warren Post to serve as an assistant commander at the Lisbon Post.

Craft began his patrol career in November 1985. He earned his commission the following March and was assigned to the Warren Post. During his career, he also has served at the Canfield, Hiram and Ashtabula posts.

Troopers from the Lisbon Post provide safety services to Columbiana County.
