Summerfest concert has patriotic theme

Neighbors | Shaiyla Hakeem .The Youngstown Area Community Concert Band performed June 30 as part of the 7-UP Summerfest Spectacular at Mill Creek MetroPark. They gave tribute to America through music, a presentaion of the color guard and a reading of the poem, "My Name is Old Glory."

The audience on the lawn of the Judge Morley Pavilion was filled with red, white and blue as they waved their American flags to patriotic tunes.

Mill Creek MetroPark hosted its second concert of the 7-UP Summerfest Spectacular June 30. The Youngstown Area Community Concert Band performed various selections with the second half of the show featuring a patriotic celebration.

Hand-held American flags were distributed to attendees at the beginning of the concert. The concert band opened the pre-independence celebration with the “Washington Post March,’ and continued with other patriotic tunes. Color guards posted the American flag and a reading of the poem “My Name is Old Glory,” was performed over the soft background music of the instruments.

The Youngstown Area Community Concert Band includes volunteers from the area.

The park’s next concert will be Wednesday with a performance from “Shaffer Brothers.” The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the Judge Morley Pavilion.
