Boardman and Canfield field action The Boardman Tri-T softball team Mayo split a doubleheader with Canfield.

In the first game, Boardman lost a tough one giving up two unearned runs in the sixth inning to lose 2-1. Nicole Sanfilippo pitched a complete game five-hitter while allowing no earned runs.

Canfield’s Davis limited Mayo to only one hit by Julie Sands.

The second game was a closely played contest with Boardman winning 4-2 behind the pitching of Lyndsay Soltis.

Baylie Mook was the offensive star for Boardman with two hits, including a double and three RBIs.

Jenna Fonner helped the cause with two hits for Mayo and Stephanie Rosine added an RBI. Davis went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Canfield.

Applewood swimmers fall to Warren Olympic

The Applewood swim team continued its season with a 321-177 loss to Warren Olympic on June 30.

Steve Moss was a triple winner in the 15-18 boys 100 yard freestyle, the medley and free relays. Double winners for Applewood included Maeghan Williams (8 and under girls) 25 yard breaststroke and free relay; Will Linker (8 and under boys) 25 yard backstroke and medley relay; Austin Price (8 and under boys) 25 yard butterfly and medley relay; Cristina LaRocca (9-10 girls) 25 yard backstroke and medley relay and Gina Ricciardi (9-10 girls) 25 yard breaststroke and medley relay.

Myles Harris named to soccer team

Myles Harris has been named to the Ohio Youth Soccer Association North Olympic Development boys state team.

The U.S. Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program was established as a nationwide process for training prospects.

Harris, who attends Boardman Glenwood Middle School, has also been invited to the boys ODP Region II camp, July 6-10 in Overland Park, Kansas.

He is the son of John D. Harris Jr. and Yulanda McCarty-Harris.

Blewitt takes fifth at USA track meet

Adriane Blewitt placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 55-9.25 inches at the USA Track and Field championship.

A Boardman High graduate, she coaches at Tiffin University.

Golfers and sponsors wanted for outing

The Brett Wilcox Charity Golf Outing will be July 25 at Lakeside Golf Course, 2404 SE River Road in Lake Milton.

The fee to enter is $65 per person or $250 for a foursome and includes cart, greens fees and dinner. There will be donuts and coffee at registration and the four-man scramble will be an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

A skins game and 50/50 raffle will be available. The hole-in-one prize will be a 2010 Chevy Cobalt donated by Stadium in Salem.

Hole sponsors are needed. Fees are $100 for hole sponsor, $120 flag sponsor, $200 bronze sponsor, $250 silver sponsor and $350 gold corporate sponsor.

Golfers must register by July 12 and space will be limited to 144 golfers.

All proceeds will benefit Austintown’s 2-year-old Brett Wilcox’s battle with A.M.L. Leukemia.

Frisbee tournament

Poland’s cross country team is hoping to host an Ultimate frisbee tournament in July.

Teams must have two of seven spots on the field filled by females or left vacant. Teams with 10 players with at least three females are suggested. A $100 entry fee will guarantee teams at least three games. Individuals may register for $15 and will be placed on a team with other players at the discretion of the tournament director. The tournament will be played at Poland Township Park in July. Specific dates will be determined based on feedback from interested teams and players.
