Man shot during burglary attempt

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

A 47-year-old Youngstown man was shot while trying to get two men to leave his Brooklyn Avenue house.

The man was shot in the chest with the bullet exiting through his right arm about 2:10 a.m. Friday, police said. He wasn’t seriously injured, police said.

The victim told police he was helping a woman who lives near him with her car when he returned to his house. Two men came from behind his house with guns and ordered him to his front porch and told him to give them the keys to his house, according to a police report. The victim complied.

The two men, wearing masks, ransacked his house, and the victim to threw a chair at one of the men, police said. That caused the other man to shoot him. The two left the house without taking anything.

The victim told police he believes the woman who he helped may have been involved in the crime by luring him away from his house seeking assistance.
