Commissioner candidate withdraws

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Republican Don Manning has withdrawn as his party’s candidate for Mahoning County commissioner.

Manning, of North Lima, pulled out of the race Friday to join the campaign of Republican Jim Graham of Cortland.

Graham is seeking the 17th Congressional District seat against U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, a Niles Democrat running for his fifth two-year term in November.

Manning decided “it was much more important to help me at the federal level than to run for the county commissioner seat,” Graham said. “He’ll help me with campaign strategy.”

With Manning out of the commissioner race, the Mahoning County Republican Party has until Aug. 9 to select a replacement to run for the seat.

Youngstown Councilwoman Carol Rimedio-Righetti is the Democratic nominee for county commissioner. She defeated incumbent David Ludt in the May primary.
