Canfield’s Angels for Animals celebrated its 20th birthday June 26 with activities in its Andrews Hall.
The celebration included horseback rides, face painting, grilled hot dogs, birthday cake and discounts. Customers received 20 percent off of merchandise and adoptions for the day.
A goal of 20 adoptions was set for the event, but only 15 animals were adopted. Five dogs and 10 cats found new homes, thanks to the birthday celebration.
Angels for Animals’ Mandy Cutright, special events coordinator, said though they didn’t reach their goal of 20, they can’t complain.
“It was better than what a normal Saturday is for us,” she said.
Angels for Animals was founded in 1990 by Polly Wardle and Diane Less Baird. They focused on educating the public about animals and changing the public view of pets from property to companionship.
The next event scheduled at Andrews Hall is the fifth annual Doggy Daze Festival and Adopt-A-Thon today. Animals who were adopted have an opportunity to visit with each other in a reunion while animals still looking for a home will be showcased.
