Sales of new cars up in Valley

New-vehicle sales in the Mahoning Valley rose in June, despite last month’s national decrease.

Car dealers in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties sold 1,815 new cars in June, up from 1,746 sold in June 2009.

Sales for the year continued to improve over 2009. Mahoning Valley dealers sold 9,077 new cars for the first six months of this year, compared with 8,643 sold in the same period last year.

Last month’s new- vehicle sales also were up from the month prior, bucking trends that showed an overall national decrease in sales from May to June. Valley dealerships sold 1,517 new cars in May of this year.

The Chevrolet Malibu once again was the most-popular car, with 161 cars sold last month. The Chevrolet Cobalt was the second-best-seller in June, with 100 new units sold.

Other popular models included the Chevrolet Silverado, the Chevrolet Impala and the Ford Focus.
