Protest rally set
YOUNGSTOWN
The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union is organizing a protest rally at 1 p.m. today at George V. Voinovich Government Center, 242 W. Federal St., urging U.S. Sen. George V. Voinovich to support a federal jobs bill.
Voinovich, a Republican leaving the Senate, doesn’t have a regional office in the Mahoning Valley so the protest will be outside the downtown building named for him.
An e-mail from AFSCME says Republican senators are blocking the passage of the jobs bill that provides Medicaid funding to Ohio, and without the funding, the state will be forced to eliminate thousands of public employees.
