UPDATE: Power outage impacts 6,000 residents
A wide-spread power outage is effecting nearly 6,000 people in portions of Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
At about 1:30 p.m. today a breaker failed, causing about 3,200 residents in the McKinley area of Youngstown to lose power, said David Turner, external affairs manager for Ohio Edison.
Turner said an addition 2,700 residents in West Austintown, Mineral Ridge, Niles, Jackson and parts of Warren are also without power.
“We’re rerouting power from that breaker and we should have power restored to everyone within 45 minutes,” he said. “It’s a fairly large outage.”
At about 2 p.m. Austintown police dispatchers confirmed that they’d received hundreds of complains about the power loss but had no further information.
Streetlights west of state Route 46 are nonfunctional and businesses and residences along that stretch of road appeared to be dark.
