Passport fees increase Tuesday

YOUNGSTOWN — Passport prices will increase nationwide Tuesday.

The cost of an adult passport will jump from $100 to $135, and the cost for minors under age 16 is up $20 to $105. Renewing an adult passport also will increase in price to $110.

Adult passports are valid for 10 years, while those for minors are valid for five years.

Passport application fees are used to cover the cost of producing the passport, and also emergency services for American citizens overseas, such as those caught in the earthquake in Haiti or who have been victims of crime, according to the U.S. Department of State website.
