Local all-stars compete in softball tourney

Neighbors | Submitted .Austintown Fitch softball player Amanda Callahan participated in the 2010 Ohio Underclass Fatspitch tournament June 21 and 22 at Pickerington High School near Columbus. Callahan was part of the Northeast District's All-Star team.
The Northeast District Softball team, led by Boardman’s Brooke Meenachan and Austintown’s Carly Ortz and Amanda Callahan tied Central District for first place in the 2010 Ohio Underclass Fastpitch Tournament June 21-22 at Pickerington High School in Columbus.
Meenachan, playing shortstop, hit two home runs and drove in five RBIs with a batting average of .333 for the tournament.
Catcher Ortz threw out two runners attempting to steal. Offensively, she batted .500 with a double and four RBIs.
Right-fielder Callahan stole three bases during the tournament, scored four runs and got an RBI.
The girls’ strong play in the tournament was seen by more than 20 college coaches.
