SFA HIGHLIGHTS

WHAT’s NEW

Here’s a look at some highlights this year at The Summer Festival of the Arts:

THE THREE LETTERS PROJECT: About 40 artists will create red, black and white banners depicting the letters Y, S and U on one side and their interpretation of Youngstown on the other. The art will be hung near DeBartolo Hall and the Lemon Grove stage.

LOCAL THEATER: Several community-theater companies will perform short revue-style performances beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center. The entire program will take two hours. Participants will include Stage Left Players (“Adelaide’s Lament” from “Guys and Dolls”); Kent State-Trumbull (excerpt from “Pancakes and a Lobster Tank” with author-performer Rebecca Maher); Oakland Center for the Arts (“Not While I’m Around” from “Sweeney Todd”); Rust Belt Theater (“Rocky Horror Picture Show”); Salem Community Theatre (“Nunsense,” “Fiddler” and “Patsy Cline” excerpts); The Youngstown Playhouse (“Coffee Shop Nights” from “Curtains” and a scene from “The Wedding Singer”); and a performance from the YSU theater department.

“YOUNGSTOWN: STILL STANDING”: This documentary film from Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini will be screened for free at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday in the Butler museum’s Zona Auditorium.

“TO BE CONFIRMED”: A reading of this new play written by Cheryl Games of Youngstown will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center.

“To Be Confirmed” is a coming-of-age story about two sisters growing up in Youngstown under a cloud of family secrets. The cast includes Emily Damelio, Laura Phillips, Candy DiLullo, Denise Sculli, Sara Wickline Klimenko, Christopher Fidram, Zach O’Connor and Johnny Picano. A discussion with the playwright, directors and actors will follow the reading.
