FESTIVAL OF NATIONS


As part of the Summer Festival of the Arts, 28 ethnic groups will participate in the Festival of Nations. Located near Maag Library, this component of the SFA acknowledges the many different ethnicities that comprise the Mahoning Valley. The following groups will be represented:

BOOTHS

Wales: David’s Society — baked goods

Italy: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church — pasta, eggplant, sausage, meatball sandwiches

Palestine: Middle Eastern foods and sweets from Jerusalem Foods

Ireland: Corned-beef sandwiches, corned-beef chowder, homemade potato chips, Irish Stew, fresh fruit salad from Jeffrey Chrystal’s Catering

Puerto Rico: OCCHA — arroz con gandules and pastelillos

Greece: Gyros, grape leaves, baklava, kourambides, fenikia

Hungary: Youngstown American Hungarian Club — stuffed cabbage, noodles and cabbage, pastry and crepes

Serbia: Avala Tamburitzans — kielbasa sandwiches, Serbian potato salad, strudel and baked goods

Romania: Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Church — mititei, (meat rolls) Sarmale (stuffed cabbage), clatite (crepes)

Carpatho Rusyn Society: Haluski and Holubki

Poland: Polish Arts Club: Pierogi, Halushki, Kielbasi and kraut

China: Shang Hai River — eggrolls, friend rice

Soul Food: Our Family Restaurant’s greens, macaroni and cheese, corn bread, baked beans, ham

YSU Latino Organization: displays and memorabilia

Ethnic Heritage Society: Mult- ethnic display of memorabilia

Valley Coalition of Conscience (Darfur): Display and information

Russia: Icon exhibit and sales

Noon: Red Hawk American Indian Cultural Society

1 p.m.: Erie Heights Brass Ensemble

2 p.m.: Roger Juntunin — concertina music

3 p.m.: Krakowiaki Polish Folk Circle

4 p.m.: Csillagok Hungarian Folk Ensemble
