Staff report
Austintown
The township police department is asking for the public’s help to track down the suspect in a wallet theft and bank scam.
Detective Sgt. Dan Kosco said police have been searching for more than a month for an African-American woman suspected of stealing an elderly woman’s wallet May 20 and using the stolen bank card to take out a $4,500 cash advance at Huntington National Bank in Boardman.
A full description of the woman wasn’t available immediately.
He said the victim notified the bank that she’d lost her Huntington card, but the cash advance already had been approved.
Kosco said other area epartments have been on the lookout for her, but they’ve had no luck.
The suspect was caught on a surveillance camera inside the bank, and Kosco said he hopes someone will see the photo and recognize her.
Anyone with information about the identity of the woman should contact Kosco at 330-270-5111.
