Edison’s statue to represent Ohio in D.C.


Ohio-born inventor Thomas Edison was the top vote-getter among the luminaries being considered to represent the state in the statuary hall of the U.S. Capitol.

Edison received 12,132 of 37,000-plus votes cast by residents at museums around the state from late March through mid-June. The Wright Brothers were second with 10,895 votes, followed by civil rights leader William McCulloch and Olympic gold medalist Jesse Owens.
