Concessions

The Mahoning County Board of Elections voted Tuesday to implement cuts in an effort to save money during the county‘s difficult financial times. The reductions and approximate savings from each:

Require board members and staff to make 33 percent of their Public Employees Retirement System payment; roughly $9,500.

Consolidate 14 of the county’s 287 voting precincts; $9,800.

Lay off two employees, effective immediately; $38,028.

Reduce hourly salaries of part-time workers from $9 to $8; about $3,880.

Eliminate house-to-house bag delivery and outsourcing of precinct supply kits; $3,000 and $3,716, respectively.

Reduce the cost of training supplies; $2,740.

Do away with color copies; $2,800.

Switch to generic vote slips; $2,500.
