‘Angels’ wanted

NILES

The Art Outreach Gallery in Eastwood Mall is looking for community “angels” to support its youth summer workshops.

More than 150 students are participating in the workshops that run through July 31. The organization needs $3,100 to finish funding the program.

Workshops include yoga for kids, French and Italian language classes, storytelling featuring Scrappy, making recycled paper, filmmaking, creative art making and acting.

They are designed for students age 3 to 18. The fee for each class is a donation of a nonperishable food item to the Second Harvest Food Bank.

Donations should be sent to Art Outreach Gallery, PO Box 1343, Warren, OH 44482.

For workshop information and registration forms, go to www.artoutreach.org, the gallery or the mall customer-service center.

More fatal crashes

MANSFIELD

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says more people died in car crashes in the first half of this year than in the first six months of 2009.

The patrol says 495 people have died in wrecks since January compared with 436 people during the same time period last year.

Data show more people dying in wrecks in rural areas and on roads away from big cities and populous areas.

Patrol spokesman Sgt. Max Norris said crashes were up overall this year because of frequent snow and rain. Counties near major population centers had the biggest increases, such as Clermont in southwest Ohio, Licking in central Ohio and Portage in Northeastern Ohio.
