Youth corps offers summer sessions
Staff report
The Youth Volunteer Corps of the Valley, a program of HandsOn Volunteer Network of the Valley, is offering summer volunteer opportunities for youths age 12 to 17.
Three sessions with Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District are being offered in three Trumbull County communities.
The conservation district will assist participants with storm-drain marking, a program in which storm drains are marked with plaques that say “No Dumping-Drains to Creek/River/Lake.”
Volunteers also will take part in Stream Watch, a stream water-quality monitoring and education program in which participants will take stream-water samples, collect, sort and identify macroinvertebrates, record their results and assign a rating of stream health based on their sampling.
Each session begins with an orientation at TSWCD, and the service days are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Session one is in Girard from July 12 to 16; session two is in McDonald from July 26 to 28; and session three is in Kinsman from Aug. 9 to 11. Each session is limited to 15 volunteers.
