1080 Media earns top seed for Class B playoffs

Cene Division leader 1080 Media beat Action Physical Therapy, 15-2, and, with a 23-2 record, secured the best positioning for the Class B League playoffs.

Goldstone Division leader Rondinelli Tuxedo (15-10) sits in the No. 2 position followed by Dave Sugar Excavating (17-8) and Astro Falcons (15-10), both in the Cene Division.

The remaining playoff teams are Cene’s Roth Brothers (15-10) and Goldstone’s Wharmby Sports (12-13).

In 1080’s win, James Coates had three hits, including two triples, and drove home seven runs and scored three. Cavan Cohoes had four hits, including a double, and Joe Aulizia had two hits and three RBIs.

For Action, Jordan Adkins had a double and an RBI while Rick Yauger had a hit and an RBI. Dan Stonebreaker and Cody Kirk each scored runs for Action.

Rondinelli 5, OTN Performance 1

Rondinelli relied on the strong arm of Aaron McGee, who surrendered only one run on three hits, while striking out seven. Joe Killian led Rondinelli’s offense with three hits.

OTN’s Brent Messett had a triple, while Ryan Halicki had a hit and the lone RBI.

Youngstown Express 5, Livi Steel 3

Express got out to a quick start as David DiBernardi picked up his first victory of the season.

Sean Mancino had two hits and scored two runs for Express. Clay Cooper had a double and two RBIs while John Fithian had two RBIs.

Josh Davis had a double and an RBI for Livi.

Livi 1, OTN 0

Josh Pryor allowed three hits and struck out nine to lead Livi.

Livi’s run in the third started with a single, passed ball and wild pitch before Steve Wilaj scored the game’s only run. Wilaj had the only two hits for Livi. For OTN, Gary Revale had two hits.

Astros 10, Roth 3

Astros scored six runs in the sixth and seventh innings to put the game out of reach.

John Beatty had two doubles, while the league’s hottest hitter, Ronnie Bovo, had two singles for Astros. Tim Cheslik knocked in two runs.

Roth’s Matt Palo also had two RBIs.

Rondinelli 10, Sugar 9

Sugar tied the game on John McCormick’s triple and Sugar took a brief lead in the fourth. But Rondinelli struck when Kyle Vaclav scored on a triple from Phil Lipari and Rondinelli took the lead when Adam Shrodek’s single plated Dan Ferguson.

Phil Hall got a save when Sugar threatened with a tying run on third.

Wharmby 15, Yo. Express 1

Helping push across three runs for Wharmby in the first inning were David Saluga’s two-out triple, a double from Jason Burkes and Dom Defelice’s double. Burkes finished with three hits.

For Express, Clay Cooper and Tim Calhoun doubled.

Wharmby 2, Rondinelli 1

Although unearned, Anthony Savko scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth to lead Whamrby on Friday night.

Dom DeFelice picked up the victory, while Jim Dobran had a double and an RBI.

Rondinelli’s Adam Shrodek suffered the loss, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits. Shrodek added a hit and Rondinelli’s lone RBI.

Action 12, Yo. Express 5

Tim Schiraldi had three hits and two RBIs, while Cody Kirk had two hits, including a triple and an RBI as part of Action’s 18-hit attack. Matt Corner had a triple and two runs scored while Rick Yauger and Zack Palumbo each added a triple for Action. Joe Markovitch had two hits for Express.

Astro Falcons 6, Livi Steel 1

Jeff Deckerd gave up one run and four hits, while striking out seven and walking none. Kyle Allen had an inside-the-park home run, while Tim Cheslick added a three-run double for Astro.

Pete Garthwrite had a hit and scored the lone Livi run when he was driven home by Dante Delbane.
