Senior singers perform final spring concert

Seniors members of Canfield High School’s Concert Choir, One Octave Higher Ensemble and Chamber Ensemble were honored by concert director Kelly L. Scurich May 27 at the final performance of the spring concert for 2010 graduates.
Awards were given in the form of scholarships, grants, letters, certificates and general recognition. Second-year members of the choir received a certificate. Third-year members lettered in choir and received their patches during the concert. All seniors received a senior gift after the concert.
Returning accompanists Adrian Slipski, Eva Laino, Nicole Noday, Olivia Roy and Haley Ward were given $25 in grants to further pursue their studies in music. Incoming accompanists Ellie Rafoth, Jen Cardone and Maria Kenner were given $50 in grants to pursue their studies.
The choir said goodbye to two senior accompanists, Andrew Halley and Cassandra Homick.
The Stephen Snodgrass Scholarship was awarded to senior Maggie Wagner, who will attend Wake Forest University this fall. The Booster Award was received by senior McKenzie Hagy who will attend Muskingham College in the fall.
The new concept of a “Senior Song” was introduced to the choir this year by the 2010 seniors. The senior choir sang a version of “Lean on Me” from the television series Glee and spent many days practicing and preparing for their performance.
Jaclyn Miller, who will be attending Ohio State, sang “You Gotta Be” by the musical group, Des’ree, in the first half of the concert. In the second half, Marisa Zamary, who will attend Baldwin-Wallace College, sang “A Way Back to Then” from the musical, “Title of Sho”], for her senior solo.
A reception of cookies and punch followed the concert.
