LIBERTY
The Mahoning County Bar Association installed Atty. Michael D. Harlan for a one-year term as its president at its annual banquet earlier this week at Youngstown Country Club.
He succeeds Atty. Scott R. Cochran. Honored for 60 years as lawyers were Nils P. Johnson and Eldon S. Wright; 55-year honors went to Attys. John P. Almasy, Henry W. Davis, Joseph Donofrio and Herbert H. Pridham; and 50-year honors went to C. John Amstutz, Victor Sperling, George A. Tzagournis and John M. Vaporis.
The association’s distinguished service award was conferred posthumously on Atty. Eugene B. Fox for his exemplary service to the association and the community.
Ten scholarships were awarded to law students, totaling $15,500.
Police searching for abducted woman
YOUNGSTOWN
Police are searching for a 25-year-old East Chalmers Avenue woman who was abducted from her home Thursday morning by a man later identified as the father of her child.
A witness told police that a man in his 20s driving a black four-door Lexus knocked on the front door at 11:20 a.m., saying he needed to speak with the victim, pulled out a handgun and struck the victim in the head with it.
The victim ran from the house, but the man caught her and dragged her into his car and left the area.
Police checked “multiple locations” but did not find her.
Work on Route 617
new springfield
Beginning Tuesday, state Route 617 will be closed for 30 days from Beard Road to Unity Road for two culvert replacements.
The detour will be state Route 165 to state Route 14 to state Route 170. Access to all homes and establishments will be maintained.
The work is the beginning of a $300,000 project to replace three culverts on Route 617 near Unity. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by October.
State Route 630 (East Calla Road), New Middletown, is closed just west of Rupp Road until mid-July for a culvert replacement. The detour is Pa. Route 317 to Pa. Route 551 to U.S. Route 224 to Route 170. Access to all homes and establishments will be maintained.
West Side robbery
YOUNGSTOWN
A 27-year-old Wellington Avenue woman reported that three men broke into her West Side home and robbed her at 4 p.m. Thursday, with one of them threatening her with a handgun and stun gun.
The man with the handgun forced her to go to the basement while he looked through it. The two other men looked through the rest of the house.
The only thing the men took was a handgun from under the mattress in a second-floor bedroom, the woman said.
The men were dressed in black sweatsuits and wore black ski masks. Each was about 6 feet tall.

The Mahoning County One Stop is having a recruiting event for Comfort Keepers on Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 141 Boardman-Canfield Road.
Area residents interested in part-time employment as home health aides for seniors are encouraged to attend.
Various shifts are available at locations in the following areas: Youngstown, Warren, East Palestine, East Liverpool, Salem, Damascus and East Rochester.
