Track team finishes season with banquet

Neighbors | Submitted.Boardman girls track team seniors were honored at an end of the season banquet at Antones.

The Boardman girls track team recently had its season-ending banquet at Antone’s with more than 190 people in attendance, including the 71 girls who were part of the 2010 team.

During the event, 23 seniors were honored — the largest senior class in Boardman track and field history. Seniors included Lindsay Basile, Nicole Biagetti, Jionna Bodrick, Marisa Centofanti, Shelby Crump, Lauren DeLuca, Doriyon Glass, Lauren Granchie, Alison Hall, Valerie Hood, Kylie Jenkins, Colleen Kratofil, Karlie Ligore, Anna Mafodda, Kim Maravola, Heather McSuley, MaryAnn Miller, Rachael Repko, Guiliana Silvestri, Kristie Stoll, Samantha Toke, Rochelle Zell and Chloe Zocolo.

Juniors honored were Deanna Bengala, Amber Bohac, Chynna Bragg, Rachel Cantanzriti, Sarah Craven, Shelby Dofka, Chelsea Dunn, Emily Gabriele, Katie Heney, Anne Kandray, Helena Ladd, Khalila Lomax, Dana Mooney, Carissa Plourde, Nicole Vlad and Fredericka Winlock.

Thirteen girls made up the sophomore class, including Emily Bodamer, Jennifer Bresnahan, Alexa Castellanos, Ali Ciavarella, Hailey Dickey, Jenna Farragher, Madison Kelleck, Lesley Koch, Nalisha Men, Victoria Moore, Carmen Moradian, Khooshali Shah and Samantha Wadman.

Freshman honorees included Julia Barnett, Jennifer Burnett, Christina Claybrook, Angelica Clinkscale, Daisy Corso, Lauren Davila, Kaitlyn Emery, SueJude Hamdan, Georgia Kasamias, Audrey Keleman, Kylie Lancashire, Sarina Mauerman, Marissa Melito, Jessica Nail, Lyndsay Olenych, Giovanna Silvestri, Sara Strawinski, Katrina Watkins and Madison Zickefoose.

Special awards were given to Miller for spirit, Biagetti for leadership, Heney for dedication and Vlad for the Will to Win Award. Freshman thrower Silvestri and pole vaulter Bresnahan were awarded Most Improved in field events and sprinter Koch and distance runner Bodamer were awarded Most Improved in running events.

Thrower Hood and senior long jumper Biagetti were awarded Most Valuable honors in field events. Sprinter Glass and junior sprinter and hurdler Vlad were awarded Most Valuable honors in running events.

Davila and Olenych were awarded Most Promising Newcomer awards and teammate Keleman was given the Coach’s Award.

Point plaques were awarded for the top eight on the team. Leading the team in total points and first in throwing points was Hood. Glass was first in sprinting points and second in team points. Biagetti was first in jumping points and third in team points.

Vlad was first in hurdle points and fourth in team points. Heney was first in distance points and fifth in team points. Moore was second in distance points and sixth in team points. Ligore was first in vaulting points and seventh in team points and Koch was third in sprint points and eighth in team points.

The 4x100 relay team of Biagetti, Glass, Vlad and Koch were awarded record breaker plaques for breaking a 27-year-old school record in the event, running 48.62. Hood was awarded a record breaker plaque for setting a meet record in the discus at the Poland Invitational of 144-6.

The girls team finished third overall in the Federal League, were Mahoning County champions for the 10th year in a row and finished as District champions. Three events qualified to state, including the 4x100 meter relay team and Hood in the shot and discus.
